KSTAR Nursing Assessments

nurse, infant standardized patient and a doctor

KSTAR (Knowledge, Skills, Training, Assessment and Research) Nursing is a comprehensive program for nurses designed to perform a competency assessment and provide individualized remediation to ensure minimum nurse competency. KSTAR Nursing is modeled after our successful, similar program for physicians.

On July 30, 2014, Code 213.35 was adopted into the 22 Texas Administrative Code to pilot the KSTAR Nursing program as an Alternative to Discipline for Texas nurses receiving Board Orders at Warning or Below. Working together on this program, the Rural and Community Health Institute and the College of Nursing accepted the first cohort of participants in December 2014.
